WE BCS: A Network of Women Supporting Women
Calling all women with a dream to start and grow their own business! Women Entrepreneurs and Business Owners in Bryan/College Station, WE BCS, is a brand new organization focused on women helping other women become better entrepreneurs and achieve their business goals. Whether you’re just learning about entrepreneurship, starting your own business or have been in the industry for years, WE BCS has something for you!
Co-founder Marie-Anne Holland says she feels like she’s been an entrepreneur her whole life, and after graduating from Texas A&M, getting into the workforce, and having a child, she had the opportunity to purchase the daycare that her daughter attended. This was the moment that changed everything.
A year later, Holland found herself lonely and overwhelmed as a working mother, trying to juggle her job as a business owner and her job as a mom. To help meet those challenges, she started a Facebook group, born out of her desire to form connections with other female entrepreneurs.
Starting with only 35 members, the group has taken off, growing to 500 members that collaborate and engage with one another daily. Quickly becoming a community of friendship and support, the women are constantly encouraging and supporting one another through the online group.
Along the way, Holland joined forces with co-founder Amelia McCracken, and the two began meeting with members in person this year. “Meeting face to face,” she says, “is what made me want to make this a legitimate organization.”
August 1 marks the official kick off with a Launch Party at Suites on 6 from 6:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m.
The event will highlight women owned and run businesses in BCS, including a few that people may not know about, and attendees will walk away with much more than great memories and a swag-bag full of goodies from vendors. Networking will be a big part of the evening, providing ample opportunity to make connections with other women with similar goals and aspirations.
If you’re a woman and are considering starting your own business, WE BCS is a great place to get started. Hop on the Facebook group to check things out and learn about upcoming events as well as the once a month Lunch Bunch opportunity. Get to know others who are making things happen for their businesses and find the courage to reach for your dreams. It’s all about confidence, Holland says. “If I hadn’t made the decision to go all in, I wouldn’t be here today.” Where will your dreams take you?
